Lokta
Lokta is the skin/ bark of a plant. It is called
lokta plant (Daphne Cannabina).Locally known as
“Lokta” which is renowned for its exceptional
durability and special texture. Lokta is used for
raw material to make paper. Usually, it grows and
available in the height of 6,000 ft. to 9,000 ft.
in Nepal. Only from lokta’s raw materials,
qualited paper will be produced. Himalayan region
is the best place for its growth. Lokta plants stick
height could have above 3-9 feet. The bark is collected
from high altitude of 2,000 meters, with environmental
awareness to preserve the fragile ecology of Nepal’s
forests.

Paper
Lokta
paper made up of Lokta plants skin/bark. Lokta paper
seems light and smooth. It is hand made paper which
made in traditional method. Germs or insect couldn’t
attack and damage it. Paper easily foldable without
any strip and wrinkle. Lokta paper will not demolishing
in the water immediately, excellent, long lasting
and durability. The oldest available manuscripts
of Hindu and Buddhist texts, Royal edicts &
legal documents are centuries old and always having
recorded on Nepali handmade paper. Since 1,500 years
ago, handmade paper has been made in the mountain
area of Nepal. The Process involves cooking the
bark twice, consecutive washing, chopping and beating
with wooden mallets. The soft pulp is poured over
a wooden-frame and spread evenly by gently shaking
the floating frame in a water tank or pond and then
sun dried. |
